Rabies is a vaccine-preventable fatal disease in man and most mammals. Although rabies is recorded in 150 territories and is responsible for at least 60,000 human deaths every year worldwide, it is a neglected tropical problem. Most of the rabies free countries are considered to be fragile free as the disease may re-emerge easily through wild mammals. For the performance of effective rabies eradication programs, a complex set of strategies and activities is required. At the time, a joint project of WHO–OIE–FAO which was announced in 2015, plans to control animal–human–ecosystems rabies interface. For effective rabies control, prophylactic policies must be applied. These include various educational outreaches for farmers and people living in endemic areas, enforced legislation for responsible dog ownership, control programs for the free-ranging stray dog and cat populations, field large-scale vaccination campaigns, and the development of new vaccine delivery strategies for both humans and animals. The present work presents the advances in the development of new safe, effective and economic vaccines for domestic dogs, and oral vaccines for the control of the disease in wild animals. It presents also some therapeutic protocols used for the treatment of patients.

In this article, Sunni Muslims politicians' narratives on the political and religious leadership of the Lebanese Sunnis are examined in an effort to reconstruct inclusive political leadership in Lebanon. The Lebanese Sunnis are primary actors in the Lebanese politics. The significant role played by Sunnis is recognised in the National Pact 1943, which paved the way for Lebanon's independence from France together with the Taif Agreement, which ended Lebanon's civil war. The signing of the agreements culminated into the establishment of the confessional political system in Lebanon and enabled the Sunnis to constitute an integral part of that system. However, Lebanon is still saddled with internal political problems worsened by the struggle for influence over Lebanon from external actors. The overlapping between domestic and foreign factors is critical in constructing Sunni narratives on their leadership. Sunni framing constructions suggest that the Sunni leadership is galvanising the Sunni community to serve its own interests. The disempowerment of Sunnis is mainly attributed to the failure of their political and religious leadership. This article, therefore, argues for the reconstruction of inclusive leadership in Lebanon. This will enable the Lebanese actors to delegitimise identity politics and promote national cohesion and stability. It also recommends the establishment of independent electoral commissions, prohibition of foreign funding of political groupings, and dismantling of the confessional political system in Lebanon.

PurposeThis articulation sets out to focus on the mechanisms and dynamics of "expertise constitution" where it is understood as an "accomplishment" or an "achievement". This understanding appears to be an important step in studying the interrelation of accountants and ICTs, while avoiding the traditional de‐skilling or empowering accounts of technologies that still inform much of the current debate on the uses of ICTs.Design/methodology/approachThe paper, using accountants and enterprise resource planning systems in Egypt as an example, illustrates how ERP represents an opportunity for accountants to assert their expertise and to produce new identities for themselves by acting as the spokesperson of technology and by promoting claims of expertise in terms of identifying what is required for ERP to work in their companies.FindingsFinds that there is no dilution of expertise in relation to ICTs; rather, some accountants are promoting themselves as a group of relevant experts in deriving benefits from these systems. Rather than a threat, accountants mobilize the advent of ERP as an occasion where their skills and their accounting knowledge are represented as important for the proper functioning of these technologies.Originality/valueThis paper is seen to contribute to the existing literature, by addressing calls for the study of the relation between ICT in general and ERP in particular, and accountants' expertise, and offering a different conceptualisation of their interrelationship.
